Raised Garden Bed Set Up Using Bio-Mimicry Techniques

Bio-mimicry is when we look to nature to see how things are occurring naturally and we re-create those systems within our own environment.

When it comes to setting up raised beds using this technique we use something called a ‘Hugelkulture’. This technique involves layering dead and decaying wood, branches, twigs and leaf litter in a ‘lasagne’ effect which is how we see things naturally occurring in forests. This style of set up helps in retaining water and nutrient retention, increases nutrient uptake and availability, and creates a healthy mycelium network within your raised bed structure.
